PHILADELPHIA PA, October 14, 2010: On Friday, October 14 2011, over 2000 viewers attended the movie premier of the "Mighty Mac's" at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia. Set in 1972, “The Mighty Mac's" is the improbable story of Coach Cathy Rush and the Immaculata College's women’s basketball team’s historical national championship win in the inaugural women's college basketball tournament.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, Archbishop Cardinal Chaput, the Philly Six Coaches from Coaches vs Cancer, and trustees from the Cathy Miller Cancer Fund were among the attendees.
Regina Murphy, a staunch supporter and volunteer of the Cathy Miller Cancer Fund, appears at a critical point in the movie as a referee when Immaculata defeats Mississippi State University to set up their first National Championship showdown.
Other cameo appearances included Judy Martelli, a player on the Mighty Mac's ' 72 team, and wife of St. Joe’s University Coach Phil Martelli, and Vice Chairman of Coaches vs Cancer. JP Dunphy, son of Coach Fran Dunphy of Temple and Chairman of the Coaches vs Cancer, also appears in the movie during a scrimmage arranged by Coach Rush with the Mighty Mac's. A portion of the proceeds from the premier will benefit the Coaches vs Cancer.
The Cathy Miller Cancer Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing funding for cancer research and is closely aligned with Coaches Versus Cancer.
