Our Journey - HOPE LODGE CAMPAIGN
On April 7th 2003, the loved ones of Cathy Miller lost her to lung cancer - only 14 weeks after she was diagnosed as a stage four terminal patient. In the fall of 2006, the Cathy Miller Cancer Fund was born out of love and determination.
The CMCF’s purpose is to raise money for research, to find a cure for cancer and to perpetuate Cathy’s wish to Help Another Person. Due to the generosity of the family and friends of the Cathy Miller Cancer Fund, the first three fundraising events held to raise money were very successful, resulting in proceeds of $435,000!
These proceeds were donated to the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Cancer Society’s Coaches vs. Cancer. The Coaches vs. Cancer Organization was very grateful and requested permission from the Trustees of the CMCF to channel this money to support their efforts in constructing the new Hope Lodge being built within blocks of the Fox Chase Cancer Center.
The AstraZeneca Hope Lodge will significantly reduce the
difficulty of traveling long distances and the prohibitive cost of
lodging. The Hope Lodge is a welcoming place, with a home like
atmosphere, for the thousands of cancer patients and their
caregivers who leave home each year to be treated at
Philadelphia’s leading cancer institutions. The facility has a total
of 37 private suites, allowing up to 13,505 free nights of housing
each year, with an average of 1,350 patients served annually. LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW YOU CAN HELP the HOPE Lodge. . .
Because of both the importance of this much-needed facility and the obligation to fulfill Cathy’s wish to Help Another Person battling cancer, the Cathy Miller Cancer Fund pledged $100,000.00 to the Coaches vs. Cancer, in support of their effort with the Hope Lodge construction. At the fulfillment of this pledge, a first floor four bedroom suite wing will be named in memory of Cathy!
The Cathy Miller Cancer Fund now seeks the support and generosity of businesses, organizations and individuals to help make this pledge a reality. Thank you for making Hope Lodge a reality and for supporting the CMCF.
