As an oncology certified nurse (OCN), I have worked in various oncology settings for the past 12 years. I am active in my local chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society, enabling me to stay current with new trends and treatments.  As a bedside nurse I’ve assisted cancer patients as well as their families throughout their hospital experience.  As a hospital charge nurse, I have trained nurses to be not only proficient in administering chemotherapy but also to be truly present for their patients.  In the outpatient setting, I have worked with patients and families throughout the treatment continuum.  As the infusion manager for an 11 doctor practice, I have guided nurses in what I consider to be the most satisfying aspect of my nursing experience, oncology nursing.

Through this venue, I would like to share my experiences with you and hear about yours.  Keep in mind that with every issue, concern, comment and question that you share, many others will benefit.  I could not possibly state this better than Cathy Miller’s own sentiment to Help Another Person . . .

With all of the commonalities of cancer, it is distinctly individual.  You’re given a framework of what to expect, but like everything else in life the experience is your own.  Of course your primary source of information is always your own medical team.  I look forward to sharing experiences with you and hopefully offering clarifications and addressing concerns.
